Marcos Mandojana leads Yale’s engagement in Canada, the Caribbean, Central America, Mexico, and South America. He works closely with faculty, staff, students, and alumni to deepen Yale’s global partnerships, support academic and research initiatives, enhance recruitment and admissions outreach, and strengthen alumni networks. Marcos brings extensive experience in global policy and diplomacy to OIA having served as a U.S. diplomat for 25 years. He held leadership positions as the State Department’s Director of the Office for Andean Affairs, Senior Advisor for Western Hemisphere Affairs, and Chief of Staff to the Special Presidential Advisor for the Americas; Chargé d’Affaires (acting Ambassador) at the U.S. Embassy in Costa Rica; Director of the Political Affairs Office at the U.S. Embassy in Türkiye; and Consul General in Barcelona. His diplomatic postings also included Colombia, Peru, Portugal, the Philippines, the Mainland Southeast Asia Office, the Central America Office, and the Office of the Deputy Secretary of State. Marcos helped finalize the United States’ trade agreements with Peru and Colombia, worked on and represented the United States at multiple Summits of the Americas, Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Leaders Meetings, and Caribbean Community meetings, and coordinated travel by Presidents, Cabinet members, and Congressional delegations. Prior to the State Department, Marcos briefly worked in NDI’s Latin America Division, for U.S. Senator Bill Frist, at the Brazilian Embassy in Washington, DC, and at the U.S. Embassy in Brazil. He also conducted biomedical research in Brazil and at Duke University’s Medical Center and Marine Lab. He holds a master’s of science with honors in Foreign Service from and a concentration in Latin America from Georgetown University; a master’s of science with distinction in National Security and Resource Strategy from the National Defense University’s Eisenhower School; and a bachelor’s of science from Duke University.
