New vice provost helps focus Yale’s commitment to planetary solutions

As Yale’s commitment to responding to global challenges including climate change, biodiversity, and planetary health moves to a new level, Julie Zimmerman has been appointed as the university’s inaugural vice provost for planetary solutions.

In a recent interview with Yale News, she describes how Yale is developing integrative solutions to planetary threats by fostering collaboration between university leaders, faculty, students, and staff, as well as building alliances with non-profit organizations, alumni, industry partners, and donors.

Yale’s Planetary Solutions Project, launched in 2020, aims to find practical responses to global crises and in her new role Zimmerman’s focus will be on accelerating progress in interdisciplinary solutions that are innovative, scalable, and impactful. She also describes her intention to engage all parts of the Yale community to address these challenges.
