Admissions

With 17% of the student body coming from abroad, Yale University offers a diverse and exciting global environment in which to study. Yale’s history of including international students is a long one: the first international students arrived from Latin America in the 1830s. Today Yale welcomes the largest international community in its history, with a current enrollment of 2,049 international students from 114 countries.

To be accepted to study at Yale, interested applicants must apply directly to the school, college, or program where the degree will be awarded: Yale College for undergraduate degrees; the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences for doctoral programs and some master's degrees; or one of the professional schools. Candidates accepted to doctoral programs in the Graduate School are given full tuition fellowships and a standard stipend of at least $26,000 (2010-2011) a year, depending on the department. A number of the professional schools have financial aid grants available for international students.

The World Fellows Program

The World Fellows Program brings 15 emerging leaders from diverse countries and cultures to Yale from September to December each year for a concentrated 13-week program of individualized academic enrichment, discussion seminars, and leadership training.
