Yale Schola Cantorum presents Haydn and Ukrainian sacred music
On November 10, Yale Schola Cantorum, a chamber choir dedicated to performing sacred music from the sixteenth century to the present, will perform Haydn’s Stabat Mater and Agnus Dei by Ukrainian composer Anna Kuzina-Rozhdestvenska at Woolsey Hall.
Kuzina-Rozhdestvenska composed Agnus Dei “in response to the start of the war in Ukraine to honor the memory of its countless victims.” The piece features traditional liturgical text framed by tubular bells, which “ring at the opening in memory of the lives lost, and they sound again after the final dona nobis pacem to mark the proclamation of peace throughout the earth.” The event is free, open to the public, and will be livestreamed.
