Uganda experience proves transformative for midwifery students

12/09/22

Students from the Yale School of Nursing (YSN) midwifery group traveled to Atiak, Uganda this past summer to partake in an intensive four-week experience led by Dr. Michelle Telfer, Assistant Professor of Nursing and Interim Nurse-Midwifery Specialty Co-Director. The students say the experience was transformative, deepening their interests in global health by introducing “innovative approaches to maternal care” and allowing them to “immerse [themselves] in a completely different birth culture.” The four YSN students were also joined by eleven Master’s midwifery students at Makerere University in Kampala, Uganda.
