Sunil Amrith joins Yale as chair of South Asian Studies Council

Sunil Amrith, the Renu and Anand Dhawan Professor of History, has been named the new Chair of the Yale MacMillan Center’s South Asian Studies Council. He was a 2017 MacArthur Fellow and a recipient of the 2016 Infosys Prize in Humanities. He has joined Yale from Harvard. In a recent interview he said, “I think Yale has, over the last several years, really emerged as perhaps the best place in the US for the study of South Asia. In terms of faculty strength, I think Yale is right up there. And for me, that was the great attraction — a critical mass of colleagues and students that I would have the opportunity to work with here.”
