Shyam Sunder, the James L. Frank Professor of Accounting, Economics, and Finance at the Yale School of Management, spoke on the future of accounting and the profession as the keynote speaker at the October 22 ‘Accounting Research Forum of the School of Economics, Business Administration, and Accounting’ at the University of São Paulo (USP). The yearly event was hosted by the university’s Post-Graduate Program in Controllership and Accounting (PPGCC).  

Professor Valmor Slomski, the Dean of the Accounting Department at USP, launched the event and described the history of the department and the PPGCC. This year’s research forum was not only celebrating its 10th anniversary but also the 50th anniversary of the PPGCC and the 75th anniversary of the Department of Accounting at USP. 

Professor Sunder’s remarks emphasized the necessity for a more diversified accounting curriculum so that the area can continue to have impact. Professor Andson Braga de Aguiar, the organizer of the forum, noted, “Professor Sunder’s lecture was a great opportunity for our students and faculty members to deeply think about the challenges the accounting and audit professions are currently facing to remain competitive and their implication for accounting education.”

          Na sexta-feira do dia 22 de outubro, Shyam Sunder, o Professor James L. Frank de Contabilidade, Economia e Finanças da Faculdade de Administração de Yale, falou como orador principal sobre o futuro da área de contabilidade e a profissão no Fórum de Pesquisa em Contabilidade da Faculdade de Economia, Administração e Contabilidade (FEA) da USP. O evento anual foi organizado pelo Programa de Pós Graduação em Controladoria e Contabilidade (PPGCC) da universidade.

         O evento iniciou com um discurso do Professor Valmor Slomski, diretor do Departamento de Contabilidade da USP, sobre a história do departamento e do PPGCC. Além de estar comemorando o seu 10.º aniversário, o fórum desse ano também celebrou os 50 anos do PPGCC e os 75 anos do departamento de contabilidade da USP. 

        O Professor Sunder enfatizou a necessidade de ter um currículo de contabilidade mais diversificado para que a área possa continuar gerando impacto.
