On December 5, 2022 leaders of top universities in China met over Zoom with Yale officials and faculty to share perspectives on online teaching and learning on their campuses. This year’s program was co-hosted by Peking University and Yale. 

Yale President Peter Salovey and Peking President GONG Qihuang began the event by welcoming the participants. In his remarks, President Salovey highlighted the centuries-old Yale China relations dating back to 1835. 

Steven Wilkinson, Yale’s Vice Provost for Global Strategy, and YANG Bo, Vice President and Provost of Peking University co-moderated the event, in which high-level speakers from Chinese universities presented their online engagement strategies for students and faculty.   

From Yale, Lucas Swineford, Executive Director of Digital Education at Poorvu Center for Teaching and Learning provided an overview of the university’s online education including a recent launch of the Online Executive MPH Program at the Yale School of Public Health. Jonathan Reuning-Scherer, Senior Lecturer in Statistics & Data Science and School of Environment, shared the faculty perspective on how to best engage students using digital tools.  

In efforts to make education more accessible, Yale currently offers over 50 classes online and has reached millions of learners worldwide through the free online courses since March 2020. 

The China-Yale Advanced University Leadership Program was launched in 2004 and continues to provide an opportunity for Yale and Chinese university leaders to discuss the new models and the best practices in higher education.
