Annual meeting of the President’s Council on International Activities convenes at Yale’s Greenberg Center

Yale President Peter Salovey gathered with members of his Presidents’ Council on International Activities (PCIA) for a two-day meeting at the Greenberg Conference Center, March 27 and 28.

Since its formation in 1998, the Council’s advice has proved invaluable in guiding Yale’s global activities. Members reside and work in countries around the world and represent numerous sectors including finance and banking, consumer products, shipping, technology, advertising, media, academia, and government. The Council attends a meeting on campus once a year organized by the Office of International Affairs, and is also an ongoing source of ideas for developing the University’s international agenda.

Among the highlights of this year’s convening were updates from faculty and staff on key university activities, including an overview of the Yale Inclusion Economics Research Initiative presented by Rohini Pande, the Henry J. Heinz II Professor of Economics and Director of the Economic Growth Center.

Jeffrey Brock, Dean of the Yale School of Engineering and Applied Science and Zhao and Ji Professor of Mathematics, highlighted his school’s global strategy, and a presentation by Jordan Peccia, the Thomas E. Golden Professor of Engineering and Chair of the Department of Chemical and Environmental Engineering, provided an overview of the international reach of his projects at the school. Student activities abroad were also highlighted with a presentation by Matilda Vary ‘25 who participated in projects organized by the Yale chapter of Engineers Without Borders USA.

The second day of the meeting featured an update on Yale and Africa activities, with a presentation by Cajetan Iheka, Professor of English and Chair, Council on African Studies at the MacMillan Center. Janette Yarwood, Director for Africa and Middle East in the Office of International Affairs, provided a summary of Africa-related activities across the university, and student involvement was spotlighted with a presentation by Abi Ndikum ’25, founder of Yale Africa Innovation Symposium.

Concluding the presentation portion of the meeting, Jeremiah Quinlan, Dean of Undergraduate Admissions & Financial Aid, Keith Light, Associate Director of Undergraduate Admissions and John Yi, Associate Director of Undergraduate Admissions, provided an update on undergraduate international admissions.
