The Office of International Affairs (OIA) and the Office of International Students & Scholars (OISS) conduct special orientation sessions about Yale and the greater New Haven area for visiting international scholars.
Schedule
For the 2009-2010 academic calendar year, orientation sessions will be held from 8:30 – 9:15 am at the Visitor Center, located at 149 Elm Street on the following dates:
A student-led tour of the Yale campus (including a Residential College) will immediately follow.
In addition, two orientation sessions will be held at the Yale School of Medicine, Beaumont Room, 333 Cedar Street from 5:00 - 6:30 pm on the following dates:

Format
Introduction - 10 minutes
An introduction to Yale highlighting the university’s goals of the 21st century and brief overview of the activities of the Office of International Affairs and the Office of International Students and Scholars. Each scholar then introduces him/herself (name, country where they are from, how long they will be here at Yale, and their particular research areas).
Yale and the World Video - 7 minutes
The Yale and the World video, which showcases Yale and its community, is shown to the international scholars.
Yale Resources - 15 minutes
Resources available to scholars through the Office of International Students and Scholars are highlighted. In addition to resources available on campus, issues such as housing, social life, adaptation to campus life, transportation, visa related matters, and the general welfare of the scholars are addressed. Scholars are encouraged to ask questions.
Tour of Yale University – 1 hour 15 minutes
A special tour of Yale is provided by one of the student tour guides and covers the central part of campus, including a visit inside one of the residential colleges.
In addition to tours conducted in English, Yale University offers special tours in seven languages including Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, and Spanish. A tour in Portuguese is currently under production by the Visitor Center.
It should be noted that the Visitor Center provides self-guided tours for downloading in MP3 format. The English version is currently online at the Visitor Center website. Chinese and Spanish versions are currently in production and additional languages will follow.
